Teen Charged in New Year’s Eve Shooting

17-year-old Dashawn Cooper is facing murder charges for a New Year’s Eve shooting around East Oakland that resulted in one fatality. Cooper is looking at being charged as an adult for murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Ashlee Walker, an Oakland college student was out with some friends for New Year’s Eve. The Group stopped around 22nd Avenue to meet someone, and shots were fired. They were able to get away and drive to Highland Hospital, where Walker died. Police were able to identify Cooper as the assailant through witness found around the scene of the crime. Cooper was arrested the next day and was already a suspect in another shooting. He is being held in San Leandro Juvenile Hall and is awaiting trial. The death of Ashlee Walker was Oakland’s 92nd and final homicide of 2013.
