Posted on: 01/21/2015
In Late October Jerry Canfield, 72 of Alameda walked into a police station and stated that he had killed his wife. He informed police that his wife had been in constant pain for some time and that they had previously agreed that he would kill her if a situation like this occurred.
When investigators went to the suspects home they found Joann Canfield in her bed with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police lieutenant Jill Ottaviano said that Canfield had no problem telling authorities the details of the crime and that he had planned the killing.
Prior to his hearing Canfield was being held in Santa Rita Jail without the possibility of bail. After his plea of not guilty on January 16th the suspect was placed back into custody with a bail set at $100,000. He is scheduled to return to court in mid-February.
