San Leandro doctor facing illegal prescription charges – Santa Rita Bail Bonds

Posted on: 06/26/2014

Dr. Tan Nguyen, 62, was convicted of selling illegal prescriptions in 2008, and is now facing two more counts of the same charges. Nguyen’s first conviction led to 65 days in jail and his medical license was suspended for seven years.

According to the Alameda County District Attorney, Nguyen has written over 5,000 prescriptions. Over the last year a majority of these prescriptions have been for oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, and carisoprodol.

The large volume of the prescriptions that Nguyen had been writing caught the attention of the FBI. Before heading into the office an undercover sheriff asked the doctor is she could receive pain pills. Nguyen informed her that he would be able to give her Norco, but not oxycodone.

Once the agent was at the office she asked if she could receive another narcotic medication in addition to the Norco. The doctor told her to pay $65 and wrote her two prescriptions without an examination.

The next day the agent returned with another undercover sheriff and asked to receive a new prescription. Later that day the doctor was arrested without incident, but was released on bail.

Anyone facing criminal charges or incarceration may contact Santa Rita Bail Bonds for information on how to post bail.
