Possible Hash Oil Explosion in Eureka

Posted on: 11/18/2015

On the afternoon of Sunday November 15th, 911 dispatch received multiple calls reporting a structure fire on L Street in Eureka. Nearby residents stated that the garage on fire had people trapped inside and there were multiple explosions inside during the blaze.

Once fire engines arrived they spotted smoke pluming out of a single garage between a row of four. They immediately broke down the garage door and rushed inside to search for any victims that may be trapped inside. They were unable to find anyone inside, but a witness reported that they saw a male flee from the home moments before the smoke and fire was noticed.

A crew of 17 firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire within twenty minutes of their arrival. They then surveyed the area and did not report any injuries. Total damages are estimated at $15,000.

Investigators believe there was a hash oil component that may have led to the fire. The investigation of the true nature of the fire is still underway and Eureka Police have started to search for the male suspect who was spotted leaving the garage before authorities arrived. They have also initiated an investigation into the possibility of a hash oil extraction operation at the scene of the fire.

Someone who is found to be involved in a crime such as hash oil extraction could face multiple felony drug and distribution charges.
