Alameda County prosecutors recently charged Donna Marie Qualls, 54, with the murder of her boyfriend Emmanuel Emmett Christy Sr., 73, of Alameda.

The suspect stated that she had shot her boyfriend while he was sleeping in the apartment that they shared. After the victim succumbed to his injuries Qualls proceeded to call 911 and waited till the police arrived to arrest her. The emergency call came in around 10:30 a.m..

When the police arrived they found the body of the victim in the apartment located in the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue in the city’s west end.

In addition the murder charges, Qualls was also charged with elder abuse. When she was interviewed she confessed to the murder, but investigators have declined to comment on her motive.

When the suspect was arrested there was a second person in the apartment. Investigators later identified the male as a relative of Qualls. He was not arrested in connection with the crime and authorities have not disclosed his name or relationship to the suspect.
